Message from Tsuyoshi Iwasaki, JGC Senior Site Manager.

It is with great pleasure that JGC can announce that we have received the Gold Award in the QP HSE Excellence award program on 25 April 2013 which coincides with the achievement of 50 Million Safe Man-hours. The Project is currently in its 28th month of Construction on the BARZAN ONSHORE Project in Ras Laffan Industrial City.     We now have more than 24,000 persons working on site, representing 40+ different nationalities, and speaking 15 major languages. Our HSE Management System for the Barzan Onshore Project has delivered great results to date including, but not limited to, The achievement of 50 Million Safe Man-hours in 65 Million Man-hours worked.

A Total Recordable Incident Rate of 0.074 and a Lost Time Incident Rate of 0.005; 35,000 medical ‘fitness to work’ exams to help ensure a healthy workforce;  A road safety program in which more than 35 million kilometers with Zero major accidents and more than 1000 vehicles that have been fitted with In Vehicle Monitoring Systems; Over 1.1 million observations project to date and an effective Environmental management program in which 60,000 m³ representing 84% of the total waste produced at site has been recycled in the 1st of Quarter of 2013; And, JGC has received a letter of appreciation from RLC for the best security performance in the history of the camps.

A submittal for the QP HSE Excellence award was prepared which was based on several best practices for Performance Enhancement, Transferability, Reputation and Innovation – the four QP categories for this award. These include programs for daily Safe Work Planning; Audits and Surveys; Incident and Injury Free initiatives for workers and supervisors; Observation and Intervention; Incident Management; Bus Rodeos to recognize safe drivers; and improvements to Craft Skills training. These are some of the key elements in the success factors in our HSE performance to date.

Of course, the Project has daily challenges, but with its worker focused program, these can be overcome. The key to sustainable HSE Performance will continue to be our comprehensive HSE Management system, with emphasis on good worker performance while promoting positive environments in the worker camps and at the worksites. We will continue to execute on these principles on a daily basis as a team.

In conclusion, we feel our solid, world class HSE performance can be sustained until project completion although a lot of work and challenges still remain. The Project has built world class HSE results to date and we would like to thank everyone for their contribution and daily commitment to A Total Recordable Incident Rate of 0.074 and a Lost Time Incident Rate of 0.005; 35,000 medical ‘fitness to work’ exams to help ensure a healthy workforce; A road safety program in which more than 35 million kilometers with Zero major accidents and more than 1000 vehicles that have been fitted with In Vehicle Monitoring Systems; Over 1.1 million observations project to date and an effective environmental management program in which 60,000 m³ representing 84% of the total waste produced at site has been recycled in the 1st of Quarter of 2013; And, JGC has received a letter of appreciation from RLC for the best security performance in the history of the camps.make this possible including the great achievement of the QP HSE Excellence Gold Award as well as 50 Million Safe Man-hours.
